History of Yoga
The history of yoga has a lot to do with this present time. The first yoga began about 5000 years ago which means since the beginning of human civilization. The researchers believed that yoga comes from Shamanism Stone Age. This is because there were cultural similarities between Mehrgarh (Neolithic) and modern Hinduism. Mergarh Shamanic culture has influenced by the ideals, symbols of Hindu rituals of the present time. The early yoga and ancient shamanism were very much similarity and for this reason, they both wanted to go beyond the human condition.
The primary goal of shamanism was to heal the members who were in their fellowship and at the same time act as religious mediators.
Archaic Yoga also had the same goals as the community was oriented and the goal to determine the enormous order through the senses and inner vision which then to be applied in our daily lives.
Over time, yoga has progressed and considered the deepest experience. Yogis have focused on how to enhance individual lighting, rest, and healing.
Yoga evidence was found for the first time in the archaeological evidence in stone seal excavated from the Indus Valley. Yoga positions were followed by looking at the numbers that were represented on the stone seals. The artifacts were placed in the history books around 3000 B.C, which was linked to the great civilization of the Indus-Sarasvati that was known greatest civilization in the ancient world. Due to the maritime society, the Indus-Sarasvati exported goods all over the Middle East as well as Africa. They Build hygiene and geometric bricks build roads and build multi-storey buildings.
The Vedas was introduced by the Indus-culture-Sarasvati and is known as the oldest script in the world, which were actually ancient texts. It was a collection of hymns that complimented a high performance which included the oldest traditional teaching in yoga. They represented this as a divine revelation. The intelligence of the Vedas was known as “Pre-Classic Yoga” or “Vedic”. This was required by practitioners who described the yoga rituals and going beyond the limits of the mind.
After the time and the millennium, yoga and its spread in various forms came up with the need for standardization. This is important for people to know it, and can be applied to them. Thus, in the 2nd century, C.E., Patanjali was compiled and collected the basic text, later known as Yoga Sutra and that text defined the classical yoga. Otherwise, the history of yoga wouldn’t have been completed in the stage of classical yoga.
At the age of post-classical yoga in the enormous history, it led to a productive literature that included the Tantra and Hatha, which is now famous. They were taught in the schools of yoga and practiced by many. Therefore, post-classical yoga describes the adjustment of our present condition. It is the time when yoga has evolved and is introduced to people. Thus, in the 1800s, it was also applied in the United States.
Well, in recent decades, yoga has evolved and developed rapidly. Swami Sivananda was amongst the prominent gurus who ever teach yoga. He served as a doctor and he opened schools in Europe and America generously.
Now that we are moving with yoga exercises which we have today, it is much more useful and easier to understand if you look at the history of yoga.
